Successful two-day Championship and League 1 Forum

Betfred Championship and League 1 clubs have today concluded a successful two-day forum in Cumbria, during which they and the RFL together discussed wide-ranging issues in preparation for the 2020 season.

An extensive agenda included:

  • a review of the 2019 season;
  • future growth strategy;
  • commercial and marketing;
  • competition terms of entry for overseas clubs;
  • 2021 World Cup opportunities;
  • regulation and governance;
  • inclusion and diversity;
  • customer experience survey of clubs; and
  • finance and return on investment (ROI).

The forum was chaired by Simon Johnson, Chair of the RFL Board.

He said: “The Betfred Championship and League 1 Forum was a positive, collaborative and energetic session, with a full agenda focused on the future of the competitions and continuing exciting work to build value in these tiers of the sport.

“My thanks go to all colleagues for travelling, committing to the forum, and for thoughtful and robust contributions to all the topics under discussion. We look forward to the new season with confidence.”
