England Masters Lionhearts staff selections confirmed

England Masters Lionhearts staff selections confirmed

Masters Rugby League is pleased to confirm two appointments for the very first England Lionhearts squad ahead of a potential tour taking place later this year.

South Regional Representative, Adie Smith, has been appointed Head Coach and will soon get to work on selecting a squad that includes a range of colored shorts from a variety of clubs which will provide a positive and inclusive matchday experience for all England Masters Lionhearts players.

The selection period began at the Season Launch and will last until the National Festival, with players eligible via club nominations and their attendances at 2024 Masters Festivals in line with the England Masters Lionhearts Men’s player selection policy.

Ian McAllister has also been selected to take on the role of Team Manager which will see him tasked with the organisation and co-ordination of the Masters international calendar and fixtures/festivals with all eligible nations.

Both roles have been appointed by the Rugby Football League’s application and interview process and are offered on a voluntary basis for two years – a review will take place after 12 months with the option for an extended tenure for a maximum four years.

England Masters Lionhearts Head Coach, Adie Smith, says:

"It’s an honour to accept the RFL’s offer of becoming the next England Masters Lionhearts Head Coach. My intention is to create match day experiences that the players will enjoy, and I believe that if they enjoy their experience, they’ll play Rugby League with a smile on their face.

“If the team collectively play with that smile on their face, then not only will the England Masters Team become well known for their positivity, but they’ll also play the game within the 'Spirit of Masters'. This spirit and enthusiasm can filter back to their respective clubs and support the wider development of Community Rugby League.”

England Masters Lionhearts Team Manager, Ian McAllister, explains:

“It's a great privilege to be selected as England Masters Lionhearts Team Manager, hopefully I can provide the players the same opportunity experiencing international Rugby League within Masters, the same enjoyment, passion and excitement I was able to experience as an amateur player.”

Players for the England Masters Lionhearts will need to attend a minimum of three festivals this season and be nominated by Team Managers to be eligible for selection. All selection process documents can be found on Masters RL (rugby-league.com).
