England Rugby League and Super League have teamed up with Smart Energy GB to encourage fans to take control of their energy use this autumn.
Under a new partnership which has been announced ahead of an historic three-Test series for England’s Men against Tonga, Rugby League stars will be joining Smart Energy GB in underlining the importance of smart meters, and their benefits both to people and to the environment.
Warrington duo Danny Walker and Matty Ashton, Liam Marshall and Toby King of Wigan, were joined by the England and St Helens captain Jodie Cunningham and Wigan centre Anna Davies to produce a content series reflecting on how players gain big on-field rewards for making small changes off the pitch – in the same way that a smart meter and in-home display can enable people to make small changes to their energy use at home and reduce their bills.
Rhodri Jones, the Managing Director of Rugby League Commercial, said: “We are delighted to announce this partnership with Smart Energy GB ahead of the most exciting weeks of the Rugby League season, as we look forward to Grand Finals in our domestic competitions followed by five autumn internationals for our three England teams.
“As a sport, we are pleased to be playing our part in spreading the word about the benefits of smart meters, which allow people to take control of their energy use, reducing their bills and their carbon footprint.”
Phillippa Brown, Deputy Director of Special Audiences at Smart Energy GB, said: “Rugby League reaches tens of thousands of people through sport every week, as well as their work in communities across the country. We’re excited to be working in partnership with them to help more people understand the benefits of smart meters and how they can help people to better manage their energy bills.”
