
With the season drawing to the business end of the season both in the northern and southern hemisphere. Here is a look at how some of the England stars performed over the weekend.
Mikey Lewis helped guide Hull KR to a crucial home win against Catalans Dragons. The Robins are pushing towards the play-offs’ and Lewis’ contributions of a try and an assist helped during the 26-18 success.
On Friday evening, Wigan Warriors centre duo, Toby King and Jake Wardle were both on the scoresheet during their win. King made over 104 metres during the contest on Friday. Half-back, Harry Smith, turned provider for one of the Warriors’ tries.
Warrington Wolves bounced back on Saturday with a strong victory over Castleford Tigers with England players taking centre stage.
Captain, George Williams, ran the show, especially during the second 40. Williams made 191 metres, scoring two tries and assisting another.
Matty Ashton was another wolf who impressed. The winger made 163 metres from 17 carries, he also scored a try and got two assists. Matty Nicholson also scored during the victory.
The final game in Round 24 saw St Helens defeat Wakefield Trinity.
Full-back, Jack Welsby, turned provider for a try, meanwhile, on the edge Tommy Makinson posed a threat scoring two tries and making 160 metres from 18 carries.
In the Betfred Women’s Super League, Leeds Rhinos came from behind to defeat St Helens at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
Shona Hoyle and Eboni Partington were on the scoresheet for the hosts, before Leeds fought back in the second 40 which included a try from Zoe Hornby.
Wigan Warriors defeated Huddersfield Giants elsewhere. Anna Davies was a recent called up to Stu Barrow’s national performance squad. Davies scored a brace during their 26-6 victory.
In the Australia, Dom Young grabbed the headlines for his acrobatic score. Despite the best efforts of the St George defence, Young managed to ground the ball whilst airbourne and facing the wrong direction. Minutes later, Young crossed for another during their final regular season fixture.
Herbie Farnworth, Elliott Whitehead and Victor Radley are all set to feature in the play-offs with their respective clubs.
Farnworth’s Brisbane Broncos will get the action started when they host Melbourne Storm on Friday morning.
Saturday will see Victor Radley in action, as Sydney Roosters travel to Cronulla Sharks. Meanwhile, Sunday will see Dom Young face Elliott Whitehead, as Newcastle Knights host Canberra Raiders.
Fran Goldthorp scored her first try in the NRLW this weekend. Goldthorp evaded the defence to touch down for North Queensland Cowboys. Elsewhere, Georgia Roche scored as Newcastle Knights came from behind to defeat Canberra 20-12. Hollie-Mae Dodd started in the second row for the Raiders during that match.
