Panthers to pay tribute to Zak Dewhirst

Halifax Panthers will hold a minute’s silence before Sunday’s Betfred Championship fixture against London Broncos at The Shay to remember Zak Dewhirst, a hugely popular member of their Wheelchair Super League winning staff who has died at the age of 34.

Juniors and members from the local community club King Cross ARLFC will also be in attendance to celebrate the life of Zak, who also played for the Halifax Reserves.

Rob Hawkins, the England Wheelchair star who scored five tries as the Panthers beat Leeds Rhinos in a thrilling Super League Grand Final in Manchester last autumn, revealed at last week’s season launch that the Halifax squad would be dedicating their 2023 campaign to Zak.

The RFL, Rugby League Cares and the Rugby League Benevolent Fund join the Halifax club in paying tribute to Zak Dewhirst’s life and contribution to the sport of Rugby League, and sends condolences to his family and friends.
