With England Men’s opening World Cup fixture exact two months away we take a look at how some of the England stars performed over the weekend in Round 23 of the Betfred Super League.

Warrington Wolves got the round underway as they hosted Toulouse in a vital game at the bottom of the table.

Half-back George Williams played an important role. Williams ran through a gap to score underneath the posts late on in the contest. In the final minute, his kick into the in-goal area was pounced on by Ben Currie to score.

Matty Ashton helped to open the scoring. He broke down the left, before kicking in-field to Oli Holmes, who was able to score.

Stefan Ratchford converted five goals during the 32-18 win for Warrington.

On Friday, Hull KR faced Leeds Rhinos.  Ryan Hall made his first appearance since injury. The winger scored just 10 minutes into his return. Hall made an impressive 165 metres off just 14 carries.

In opposition, Mikolaj Oledzki assisted a try, on top of the 105 metres he made.

Harry Newman looked threating, however he departed from the field with an injury.

The other fixture on Friday saw Catalans make the trip to the Mend-A-Hose Jungle to face the Castleford Tigers.

Paul McShane played his role in Castleford’s victory. He created space for Greg Eden to score a try.

For the Dragons, Michael McIlorum made 29 tackles, which was the second highest in the Dragons team, meanwhile full-back Sam Tomkins scored one of Catalans’ two tries on the evening.

On Saturday, Salford Red Devils took on the Huddersfield Giants live on Channel 4.

The Red Devils looked red hot racing into a 16-0 lead. England international, Kallum Watkins was one of the players who scored early on. Watkins also made 156 metres from just 15 carries.

Wigan were without Liam Farrell in their visit to Wakefield on Sunday.

Mike Cooper thought he had scored; however, it was ruled out by the referee. Liam Marshall also started for Matt Peet’s side.

The final match of the weekend saw Hull FC host the current defending Super League champions, St Helens.

FC may have struck first, but the Saints fought back with 60 unanswered points.

Tommy Makinson scored two tries, assisted another and kicked eight goals during the dominant win.

Alex Walmsley had a very impressive display. The prop made a huge 206 metres from 20 carries.

Jonny Lomax assisted two tries.

Joe Batchelor and Matty Lees both started in the forward pack.
