Report: York City Knights 16-32 Batley Bulldogs

Batley Bulldogs kept up the relentless pace of the chase for a place in the Betfred Championship top four as they beat York City Knights 32-16 away from home, live on Premier Sports.

Batley sit fourth in the table, only behind runaway top two Leigh and Featherstone and Halifax, who have won 13 of their last 14 matches.

Crag Lingard's side were in control from mid-way through the first and they racked up a 20-0 interval lead before seeing out the clash in the face of a late York rally in the North Yorkshire heat.

Our League Player of the Match Luke Hooley kicked off the scoring after 17 minutes, before he added a second try ten minutes later. Tom Gilmore converted both tries and added a penalty goal as the visitors went 14-0 ahead with 30 minutes played.

Johnny Campbell celebrated his 35th birthday yesterday and marked the occasion with a try just before half time. Gilmore improved once again for a 20-0 Bulldogs lead going into half time.

And Batley were quickest out of the blocks after the restart as Dane Manning strode over on 48 minutes, Gilmore again with the goal as the visitors sat 26-0 up heading into the final half hour.

York did strike back through Liam Harris, who cconverted his own try on the hour mark, but Lucas Walshaw's try minutes later doused the flames of a possible comeback. Gilmore then made it six goals from six attempts.

James Ford's Knights carved out a more competitive scoreline thanks to tries from AJ Towse and Danny Kirmond in the last ten minutes, plus one more Harris goal, but it wasn't enough as Batley rode out the game for their 13th league win of the season.
