Halifax turn on the style to defeat York

Halifax Panthers made it 12 wins from their last 13 matches with an impressive 36-10 demolition of York City Knights on home turf tonight.

In the week's live action on Premier Sports, Halifax began the day in fifth - York in fourth - and tonight's win lifted them up to third, only behind leading pair Leigh and Featherstone.

After a tense start, it was Halifax who broke the deadlock as Our League Player of the Match Lachlan Walmsley went over on 11 minutes.

Joe Keyes converted for the first of his six goals on the night. Daniel Murray followed up with a try shortly after, before James Woodburn-Hall sent Ben Tibbs over just after the 20 minute mark.

Though Chris Clarkson struck back with a try for York on 27 minutes, it was the home side who took a comfortable 18-4 lead into the break.

York flew out of the blocks after the restart but a stunning period of defence from 'Fax meant they had nothing to show for their efforts, despite enjoying seven sets on the opposition line.

And once Halifax got their hands on the ball, Keyes and halfback partner Louis Jouffret ran in tries either side of the hour mark to pull clear.

Will Jubb managed a late try for York, Liam Harris converting, but Walmsley went on to have the final say as he dived in at the corner with the seconds ticking towards full time.
