Plenty of tries for England stars

It was a successful week of action for England’s Betfred Super League stars with a handful of players getting on the scoresheets for their respective sides.

Wigan Warriors earned an impressive 58-12 victory over Salford Red Devils with three England candidates crossing for doubles.

Back-rower Liam Farrell finished a flowing Warriors move from inside his own half before slicing through in typical Farrell fashion in the second half to take his try-scoring tally to ten for the season in all competitions.

Oliver Gildart scored twice in the rout while England Knight Sam Powell got the Warriors moving with two burrowing efforts early in the first half.

In a tough evening at the office, 2017 Rugby League World Cup star Kallum Watkins notched his first Betfred Super League try for Salford Red Devils.

St Helens continued their dominance in the Betfred Super League making it ten consecutive victories since the resumption of the season and their England contingent were crucial once again.

Jonny Lomax grabbed two try-assists in another stunning attacking display while Tommy Makinson ran for a mammoth 270 metres from his 20 carries in Saints’ 40-8 defeat of Coral Challenge Cup winners Leeds Rhinos.

However, the headlines were stolen by England Academy player Josh Simm who crossed for a hat-trick in just his sixth first team appearance. Simm’s three tries all came inside the first half with his first being the pick of the bunch.

Alex Walmsley and Morgan Knowles also featured for St Helens while England Knight Cameron Smith was one of Leeds’ two try-scorers. Jack Walker, Kruise Leeming and Mikolak Oledzki were also part of Richard Agar’s side.

Wakefield Trinity flyer Tom Johnstone found himself on the scoresheet on Thursday evening as Chris Chester’s side earned a much-needed 14-18 victory over Huddersfield Giants.

Trinity made it back-to-back victories on Sunday afternoon with a dominant 48-18 win over Hull Kingston Rovers with England centre Reece Lyne playing a crucial role scoring two tries and playing a part in Ben Jones-Bishop’s hat-trick.

There were two more try-assists for Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel contender Paul McShane in Castleford Tigers’ 38-24 win over Hull KR last Thursday.

Salford Red Devils face St Helens on Monday 26th October at 5:30pm before Leeds Rhinos battle Castleford Tigers a 7:45pm. Both games will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Arena.
