England Women’s Downer Rugby League World Cup Nines came to an end with a 4-33 defeat against the New Zealand Ferns at Bankwest Stadium.
Amy Hardcastle’s try looked to have given Craig Richards’ side hope, however the Ferns proved too strong and progressed to the final against Australia.
Krystal Rota opened the scoring slicing through the England line to score.
England caused issues down the left-hand side and forced a goal line drop-out which paid dividend when Hardcastle produced a lovely sidestep to round the Ferns defence and level the scores.
However, New Zealand hit back with two tries in quick succession as Jules Newman went over before the Ferns notched up a bonus try to put themselves in the ascendancy. Honey Hireme’s score on the half-time hooter gave New Zealand a 15-point lead at the interval.
Rota grabbed her second of the game two minutes into the second half before Hireme also earned her brace out wide. Nita Maynard closed out the scoring for New Zealand with England Women exiting the tournament at the group stage.
