Widnes Vikings have confirmed that Patrick Ah Van has re-signed on a short-term deal until the end of the 2019 season allowing the winger to be available for selection in the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Final at Wembley Stadium.
Patrick Ah Van said: “I’m really happy to get this sorted. I only came back into the club because some of the boys asked me to help out when a few injuries happened.
“I’ve been following how Widnes had been getting on this year whilst I was over in France and I saw we had injuries, so I offered my services to Kieron. A few of them are now back to full fitness, so I’ve got some work to do to stay in the team.
“Being part of the team that got to the final last weekend was great. I didn’t want to just re-sign and be part of Wembley for myself, but for the lads and the fans who have been through such a tough time at the start of the year.
“It was one of the best experiences I’ve had at Widnes winning at Leigh and getting through to Wembley.
“Ever since I signed for Widnes all those years ago, nobody seemed to give us a chance with anything. That was the same on Sunday, nobody gave us a chance to go and win that game, and it was an unreal feeling to know I’ve played a part in helping us get there.”
Phil Finney, Chief Executive of Widnes Vikings, said: “Widnes Vikings would firstly like to thank Patrick for offering his services to us on a short-term deal when we were short on bodies in the squad.
“He is a player with huge experience and ability, and is a well-liked figure around the club, who adds quality and depth to the squad.
“Pat has been associated with the Vikings for a number of years, so it’s great that he can be part of the squad that travels down to Wembley, the club’s first appearance there since 1993.”
Widnes Vikings will face Sheffield Eagles in the inaugural AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Final on Saturday 24th August following the 2019 Coral Challenge Cup Final between St Helens and Warrington Wolves and you can purchase tickets HERE.
