Swinton Lions and Wales international Rhodri Lloyd is excited for this weekend’s Summer Bash and has hailed the occasion as a real highlight of the Rugby League calendar.
Lloyd said: “I can’t wait.
“We’ve got a local derby in the second game on the Saturday so we’re all bouncing for it.
“The fans are bouncing for it too. I think a few of the fans booked their stay in Blackpool as soon as the fixtures came out and we’ve booked our night out for the Saturday as well. It’s going to be awesome.
“It’s just a great venue and a setting for all the fans to come together in the Championship and it really is great for Championship Rugby League.”
Swinton will face local rivals Rochdale Hornets in the second game at the Summer Bash and - despite sitting in 12th- Lloyd insists his side are loving competing in the Betfred Championship.
“Playing for Swinton we know we haven’t got the finances that other clubs have.
“To challenge ourselves against the likes of Anthony Gelling, Ricky Leutele and Blake Wallace – they’re great players and great players to compete against.
“It’s always going to be tough playing for Swinton but being able to challenge ourselves against those types of players is one of the things we cherish.”
