Hunslet vs Workington | 1895 Cup | Saturday 4th May | 3pm | Our League

This weekend sees the first round of fixtures in the brand-new 1895 Cup which offers teams from League One and the Championship the opportunity to progress to Wembley and compete for a trophy on the same day as the Coral Challenge Cup final.

Eight League One teams will enter in the First Round with the standout tie taking place on Saturday as Hunslet welcome the visit of Workington Town, in a game which will be broadcast live on Our League. Hunslet and Workington are the only two sides in the First Round of the 1895 Cup to have won the Challenge Cup at Wembley with Hunslet doing so in 1938 while Workington won the competition back in 1952.

Hunslet are one of the early pace-setters in League One trailing current leaders Whitehaven by just one point after five games. They won five of their opening six fixtures in 2019 but did suffer a disappointing 26-42 defeat last weekend at home to London Skolars. Hunslet will be looking to the 1895 Cup as a catalyst to get back on track in the coming weeks.

It’s been a mixed start to the season for Workington who currently sit 7th in League One with six points to their name. Town actually started the season quickly winning three of their opening four games in League One. However, they head into this weekend’s 1895 Cup game on the back of three consecutive defeats to London Skolars, Whitehaven and Keighley Cougars.

Will it be Hunslet or Workington who return to winning ways?

Toronto Wolfpack vs Bradford Bulls | Betfred Championship | Saturday 4th May | 6pm | Sky Sports

Toronto Wolfpack returned home to the Lamport Stadium last weekend and welcomed the highest regular season crowd outside Super League since 1997 with 9,562. This weekend, Bradford Bulls make the trip over the Atlantic looking for a memorable victory.

Brian McDermott’s Wolfpack sit top of the pile in the Betfred Championship leading nearest challengers Toulouse Olympique by four points. Toronto earned a comfortable 52-10 last weekend against Swinton; their sixth consecutive victory and their first back in Canada. Toronto will be looking to make it back-to-back wins at home and secure the Lamport as a fortress in 2019.

Bradford head into this weekend’s game in equally impressive form winning each of their last five Betfred Championship games. The Bulls were victorious in their last outing 52-16 against Rochdale which followed on from wins against Leigh Centurions, Dewsbury Rams, Halifax and Barrow Raiders.

Can Bradford cause an upset or will Toronto come out on top?

Featherstone Lionesses vs Stanningley | Coral Women’s Challenge Cup | Sunday 5th May | 12:45pm | Our League

The Coral Women’s Challenge Cup first round also takes place this weekend with a host of exciting ties set to take place but possibly none more so than a Yorkshire derby between Featherstone Lionesses and Stanningley.

Featherstone Lionesses come into the First Round of the Women’s Challenge Cup after recently going through the WARLA Premier Division unbeaten before overcoming Orrell St James in the WARLA Challenge Cup to secure a memorable double. The Lionesses will come into this weekend looking to make an impact in the Challenge Cup.

Stanningley have had a strong start to their 2019 season in the Women’s Championship comfortably beating Hull FC and Barrow however they do come into this weekend’s game on the back of a 30-16 loss to Stanningley. The 3rd placed side will be hoping they can carry their early league form into the cup and progress to Round Two.

The 1895 Cup and Coral Women’s Challenge Cup Second Round Draws will take place from 6pm live on Our League.

Will it be Featherstone or Stanningley who enter Round Two?
