NIDO Student University Rugby League Origin Game Preview

NIDO Student University Rugby League Origin Game Preview

The NIDO Student University Rugby League Origin Game takes place on Saturday 9th February, 2.30pm Kick Off at Lougborough University and sees the North looking to retain their title against the South in what is always a hotly contested fixture.

The game will be sponsored for the first time by NIDO Student, a leading provider of Student Accomodation, who also announced a sponsorship of the England Universities team, with their logo set to appear on the team's shirts and shorts for the 2019 season.

30-man train-on squads have been training for the last four weekends to prepare for the fixture, with final squads of 22 players now having ben selected to take part in the final game. Those 44 players do battle for the Origin title, but also will be aiming to impress the England coaches who will select their squad from the game.

Both sides have a number of professional players in their ranks, with Doncaster's Matty Chrimes and Coventry's Ben Gray both having first grade experience in the North squad. Elsewhere for the maroons, Ryan Langton, Lee Registe and Conner MacCallum have all previously represented England and will be hoping for a further selection call.

In the south, Dan Gover, Errol Carter, Jacob Jones and John Sipawa all have League 1 experience with Coventry Bears, whilst Will Budd is on the books of London Broncos. Outside of the professional game, many of the players have experience of the game with their community clubs, demonstrating the national reach of the University game.

"We're delighted to be showcasing the best of University Rugby League talent again at Loughborough in the Origin game" said Adam Hughes, RFL Higher Education Manager.

"Its great that NIDO Student are on board for the fixture too and having commercial support of the game demonstrates the growing worth that University Rugby League has in this country".
