The regional series of games as part of the England Universities pathway have been confirmed. The regional sides are the first rung on the England Universities ladder, with players selected for the region in which they are studying, with a round of inter-regional games, which will take place as follows:
All six squads have undertaken a trial and a training session and will continue training in the run up to the games to ensure that they are well prepared to impress the selectors.
"We've had some great feedback from all six of the head coaches so far on the quality of the players who have been training and the commitment that is already being shown to the programme," said Richard Tate, England Universities Head Coach.
"It's really important that we select the right players at regional level as they come into the funnel for Origin and then for England and our regional coaching teams have taken on that responsibility really well. I'm looking forward to seeing all three games and seeing what the players and staff have to offer."
Following the inter-regional games, players are selected for their Origin side, with Midlands, South East and South West aligning to the South and North West, North East and Yorkshire aligning to the North, with the University Origin Match taking place in early 2019, leading to the final England squad being selected. The Origin coaching teams will also be drawn from the regional team series.
