Tom Johnstone claimed his third hat-trick of the season as Wakefield Trinity moved back up to fifth in the Betfred Super League table with a 34-22 victory over Catalans Dragons.
Johnstone draws level with St Helens’ Ben Barba on 24 at the top of the league’s try scorers after his latest scoring spree, and he was joined on the scoresheet by Matty Ashurt, Ryan Hampshire, Tyler Randell and Reece Lyne.
Six of those tries came in a dominant first-half display as Trinity led 30-12 at the break, with Benjamin Jullien and Iain Thornley replying for the French side.
Johnstone completed his treble after the restart before David Mead touched down for Catalans. Craig Huby was sin-binned with 14 minutes left and Brayden Williame immediately sliced through the 12-man Trinity defence to close the gap to 12 points.
Trinity half-back Jacob Miller and former Wakefield man Mickael Simon were both sent off late on as Ladbrokes Challenge Cup winners Catalans have now lost six successive Super League games either side of their Wembley triumph.
