Leigh Centurions kicked off the Betfred Championship weekend with another big win on Friday night, beating Sheffield Eagles 34-6 at the Leigh Sports Village - a result which sent them top of the table for now as their pursuit of an immediate return to Super League continues.
On the day they announced the eye-catching arrival of former Australian international winger Blake Ferguson, the home side went ahead after just 11 minutes as Adam Sidlow went over.
Krisnan Inu converted and Leigh doubled their lead soon after, Ben Reynolds scoring this time with 21 minutes played. Inu goaled for a 12-0 lead.
Ed Chamberlain was next to score for the home side's final try of the half six minutes later - Inu made it three from three with the boot for an 18-0 interval lead.
Sheffield had been in good form of late, winning their last three games in all competitions, but had no answer for the promotion-chasing centurions tonight and they added to their lead just five minutes after the restart.
It was Keanan Brand who scored this time with Inu adding the extras once again for a 24-0 lead.
Sam Stone's try on 53 minutes, which resulted in Inu's only missed conversion of the night, all-but ended the contest at 28-0 with the final quarter approaching.
Sheffield did find reason to cheer soon after as Tom Holmes dotted down a try, Izaac Farrell converting, but Leigh did have the final say as Wigan loanee James McDonnell went in on 68 minutes.
Inu made it five goals from six attempts to round off an impressive 34-6 win for Adrian Lam's side.
