Warrington make it two from two in Betfred Super League

Warrington Wolves made it two wins from two outings in the Betfred Super League as Daryl Powell’s side earned a 34-10 victory against his former side Castleford Tigers.

Winger Josh Charnley notched twice which saw him hit 250 career tries. Matty Ashton, George Williams, Robbie Mulhern and Peter Mata’utia also went over for the Wolves.

Derrell Olpherts got Castleford on the board after half-time while Jake Trueman was the Tigers other try-scorer in their second defeat under new boss Lee Radford.

Castleford applied the early pressure, but Ashton would read an attacking move well to turn the tides, racing 90 metres to open the scoring for Warrington.

English halfback duo Gareth Widdop and Williams would link up for Warrington’s second with the former Canberra man burrowing his way over and ensuring the hosts went into the break with a 12-0 lead.

Olpherts scored after four minutes of the second half, but Warrington hit back almost immediately through Charnley. Mulhern would force his way over just before the hour-mark to put Powell’s side in control.

Mata’utia would add his name on the scoresheet against his former side capitalising on a Castleford mistake. Trueman notched a late Tigers consolation before Charnley doubled his account for the evening with seven minutes remaining.
