For the third successive week the Dragons overturned a big half-time deficit to cement their place at the top of the table.
But they were made to fight all the way by Rovers, who stepped in at late notice following the withdrawal of Castleford due to Covid problems.
Rovers led 26-12 at the break after tries from Jordan Abdull, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Greg Minikin and Adam Quinlan, with Abdull landing all four conversions.
Matt Whitley and Sam Tomkins crossed for the Dragons - both tries converted by Arthur Mourgue - in the first half before Whitley and Abdul traded touch downs early in the second period.
The Dragons drew level through converted tries from Mickael Goudemand and Fouad Yaha, and as Rovers wilted in the heat, Mourgue's 70th-minute penalty clinched victory for the hosts.
Jackson Hastings pulled the strings for Wigan as they secured a third straight win, 25-12 against Wakefield.
Hastings set up a hat-trick of tries for winger Jake Bibby and also landed a first-half drop goal before sending Liam Marshall over the in the second period.
Bibby touched down twice before the interval and early in the second half before Joe Shorrock's try put Wigan out of sight at 21-0.
Marshall's unconverted try soon after made it 25-0, but Wakefield refused to lie down and were rewarded with two late tries through James Batchelor and Jay Pitts.
Leeds bounced back to winning ways with a convincing 38-16 victory against Salford at Headingley.
Hooker Kruise Leeming's first-half double set Leeds on their way to their seventh win of the season following two defeats in a fortnight to Catalans.
The Rhinos led 20-0 at the interval after Harry Newman's opening try and Leeming's brace, with Rhyse Martin adding a penalty to his three successful conversions.
Callum McLelland, King Vuniyayawa and Matt Prior all went over for Leeds in the second period, while the flawless Martin added all the extras.
Salford scored three second-half tries through Ken Sio, Tui Lolohea and Krisnan Inu.
Lolohea was later sin-binned for dissent and was joined on the sidelines soon after by team-mate Seb Ikahihifo following a scuffle.
Huddersfield ended a six-match losing run in style with a 40-26 win over high-flying Hull, with former England winger Jermaine McGillvary grabbing four tries.
Huddersfield made light of the absence of 10 first-team players and Leroy Cudjoe marked his 300th appearance for his hometown club with their eighth and final try.
Teenager Will Pryce, Nathan Peats and Nathan Yates also went over for Huddersfield - Oliver Russell landed four conversions - while Hull played their part with five tries of their own.
Carlos Tuimavave, Mitieli Vulikijapani (2), Jordan Lane and Chris Satae all went over for the visitors and Marc Sneyd was successful with three conversions.
An entertaining match ended on a sour note when Josh Jones (Huddersfield) and Andre Savelio (Hull) were sent off for exchanging blows as the final hooter sounded.
