A tremendous defensive performance saw Warrington Wolves see off current Betfred Super League champions St Helens, 2-6, at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Thursday evening.
Despite the victory Warrington remain in 4th spot in the Betfred Super League narrowly behind St Helens on win percentage having played a game more than Kristian Woolf’s side.
St Helens took an early opportunity to go ahead on the scoreboard when Lachlan Coote notched a penalty goal after 13 minutes. However, it would be the only time St Helens would put points on the board all evening.
Nine minutes later, Warrington took the lead as a break down the right-hand side from the halfway line eventually found its way into the hands of Ben Currie who raced clear to put the Wolves ahead. Gareth Widdop converted.
Both sides pushed for another score but, in the end, the defences of both sides proved too strong, and Currie’s try was the difference between the sides.
It’s the first time St Helens have been kept scoreless since a 0-19 defeat against Warrington at the start of the 2020 Betfred Super League season.
