Emerging sensation Jack Welsby scored his first-ever St Helens hat-trick as St Helens bounced back from defeat at Catalans last week with a hard-fought 34-16 win over Hull FC at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
Welsby and Lachlan Coote, who kicked five goals on the night, ran in early tries for the hosts before former Saint Adam Swift struck back to make it 10-4 after an eventful first ten minutes.
But Saints found another gear before the break as a try from the impressive Morgan Knowles and Welsby's second handed them a firm 22-4 half time advantage.
The versatile Welsby, 20, was operating on the wing in the absence of star man Regan Grace and completed his hat-trick with 47 minutes played to all-but tie up the points at 28-4.
Though Mahe Fonua pulled a try back for the visitors on the hour mark, goaled by Marc Sneyd, Joe Batchelor went over with 13 minutes to play to give Kristian Woolf's men an unassailable lead.
Founa would go on to have the final say with a try, again converted by Sneyd, on 79 minutes, but the game was well out of reach by then.
