NCL round-up | ex-Leeds Rhinos man helps East Leeds to win

By Ryan Booth

Last Saturday saw yet another superb week of NCL action unfold - here we take a look at how teams across the competition’s four tiers got on this time around.

Premier Division | Thatto Heath Crusaders 34-18 Rochdale Mayfield

Defending champions Thatto Heath earned their first victory of the season after triumphing 34-18 over Rochdale Mayfield in a hard-fought clash at Hattons Solicitors Crusaders Park.

Two tries from David Meadows along with further scores from Corey Lee, Michael Stark, Connor Dwyer and Mitchell Cox ensured St Helens-based Thatto Heath claimed their maiden triumph of the campaign.

Mayfield responded through efforts from Zachary James, Matthew Chrimes, James Connaughton and Callum Marriott, but Thatto Heath comfortably held on.

Division 1 | York Acorn 24-22 Bradford Dudley Hill

Antony Chilton scored a 79th-minute penalty as York Acorn overturned a 22-12 deficit to snatch a dramatic 24-22 victory over Bradford Dudley Hill at Thanet Road in front of the Freesports cameras on Rugby AM Live.

The hosts took the lead when centre Jordan Potter added the first of three scores before Chilton added the extras.

Dudley Hill responded and turned the game on its head through tries from Neil Wall, Tony Williams and Andrew Walker along with five goals from Simon Sewell.

However, York recovered from the setback and completed a remarkable comeback as Matthew Woods crossed over before Potter completed his treble - Chilton then landed the late penalty to secure the triumph.

Division 2 | Leigh East 14-16 East Leeds

Luke Tomlinson scored two tries and a late conversion as East Leeds prolonged their 100 per cent record with a narrow 16-14 triumph over Leigh East at Leigh Sports Village.

Despite Jordan Hellam's two goals, a solitary goal from Adam Holland and tries from Ryan Gray and David Griffiths - the hosts now remain winless in NCL Division two.

Former Leeds Rhinos winger James Duckworth crossed over before Kane Labad added a goal as East Leeds emerged as narrow victors from an intense encounter.

Division 3 | Millom 80-16 Eastmoor Dragons

Millom returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion after annihilating Eastmoor Dragons 80-16 at Coronation Field.

Despite the best efforts of Shaun Upson, Luke Peel and Adrian Mulcahy, the visitors were unable to salvage anything from the game as the home side ran riot.

Ross Brookes and Thomas Newbegin each claimed a brace apiece whilst Lee Postlethwaite, Tyler Lancaster, Niall Harris, Ethan Bickerdyke, Luke Brady, Noah Robinson, Dane Kelly, Joseph Wright, Hanley Dawson and Ethan Kelly also crossed over for the Cumbrians, in what was a ruthless fourteen-try display.
