Betfred Championship Round 3 round-up

Betfred Championship Round 3 round-up

After drawing with Toronto last weekend, Barrow Raiders’ impressive start to life back in the Betfred Championship continued today as they turned around a 12-20 deficit to beat Leigh Centurions 24-20.

A double from Ilias Bergal, plus efforts from Peter Mata’utia and Larne Patrick had Leigh eight points ahead at the break, with Shane Toal scoring the first two of his tries.

Ryan Fieldhouse drew the Cumbrians closer with his try mid-way the second half before Toal completed a sensational hat-trick inside the final ten minutes to seal a sensational win for the Raiders.

London Broncos remain top of the Championship with three wins from three after an impressive 44-24 win over Featherstone Lions.

Jarrod Sammut bagged a hat-trick and Kieran Dixon scored twice for Danny Ward’s side, with James Cunningham and Alex Walker also on the scoresheet.

Greg Worthington, Nick Rawsthorne and Adam Higson (2) all scored tries for Toronto Wolfpack, who are second after their 20-6 win away at Halifax.

Batley Bulldogs cruised to a 48-28 win over Swinton Lions, in a game played at Salford’s AJ Bell Stadium due to a waterlogged pitch at Heywood Road.

Alex Rowe, Wayne Reittie, Adam Gledhill, Lewis Galbraith, Michael Ward (2), Bradley Day, Dave Scott and Alistair Leak were all on the scoresheet for Batley.

Toulouse Olympique XIII finish the weekend in third place after enjoying a big 50-6 victory over Sheffield Eagles on Saturday.

Justin Sangare and Willie Barthau both crossed twice, with Paul Marcon, Mourad Kriouache, Canstantine Mika, Stan Robin and Mark Kheirallah also scoring tries.

After two postponed games, Rochdale Hornets finally get their season underway against Dewsbury Rams on the newly-resurfaced pitch at the Crown Oil Arena on Monday night, after Rochdale AFC took on Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup at the stadium today.
