Leeds Rhinos season preview

Leeds Rhinos season preview

It almost feels like a mini new era at Headingley Stadium, following the departures of iconic half-back pairing Rob Burrow and Danny McGuire.

The Rhinos are riding the crest of a wave after lifting their eighth Betfred Super League title at Old Trafford this year to send the legendary duo off on a high.

Brian McDermott seems to have made a couple of sound acquisitions over the close season, with half Richie Myler arriving from Catalans Dragons whilst 6ft5in man-mountain Nathaniel Peteru arriving from Gold Coast Titans.

They begin the season with a tricky-looking trip to Warrington Wolves before McGuire returns to Leeds as Hull KR visit Elland Road in Round 2.

That is followed up with a trip to Australia to face Melbourne Storm in the World Club Challenge, where the Rhinos will aim to retain the title of World Champions for Super League.

One to Watch: Jack Walker

Less than 12 months into his senior career and already with a Grand Final ring to his name, it’s fair to say Jack Walker has started his Leeds Rhinos spell at the top.

He made an immediate impact for the Rhinos, scoring a hat-trick on his debut against Doncaster in the Challenge Cup, and went onto impress for the remainder of the season.

Vying for the full-back spot with Ashton Golding, if the 18-year-old gets another good run in the team, 2018 could be a big year for him.
