Adam Hills aims for place in Warrington Wolves Disability RL team

The Warrington Wolves Disability Rugby League team held on Open Trial on Saturday.

The Warrington Wolves Foundation staged the first Open Trial for their Disability Rugby League team on Saturday at the Asics Stadium, Victoria Park.

The event brought widespread interest, with Australian Comedian and 'The Last Leg' host Adam Hills taking time out from promoting his DVD to attend and try seal a place in the team.

Craig Thomason, Disability Manager at The Wolves Foundation, said: "The turnout is great, especially with the weather (being) cold and wet.

"The range of ages and disabilities means it's going to be a tough selection."

The aim of the trial was to start to modify the game to suit various disabilities, and develop a team to play Leeds Rhinos, who have a similar programme to the Wolves.

Adam Hills added: "I love Rugby League and being able to play makes me feel alive!

"I am trying to encourage Alex Brooker my fellow presenter to take up the challenge and play for Leeds.

"The development has got a lot of interest from both sides with both Lee Briers and Barrie Mc Dermott behind the teams."

The next stage for the newly-founded team is to kick off training sessions ahead of their first-ever game in February, while looking to gain business interest to support the funding of the team.
