Yesterday (5th October) the University of Leicester’s Rugby League team enjoyed an exclusive training session with England’s star players, having won first prize in a nationwide competition thanks to Batchelors Peas, official partner of England Rugby League.
Coach Chris Abel entered the competition on behalf of his squad, offering Batchelors Peas several reasons why they deserved to win.
Chris said: “It was a one-off opportunity for the guys getting to meet the England players and coaching staff, they thoroughly enjoyed the session and it and was great preparation for the first game of the season next week.
“It’s not every day you get to run through your training drills with actual England half backs.”
Following a briefing from the coaching staff, the team joined George Williams and Kevin Brown at the Warrington Wolves indoor training facility. After a series of gruelling drills and exercises, they wished the England players the best of luck as they head out to Australia for the Rugby League World Cup later this month.
Dean Towey, Marketing Director at Princes (manufacturer of Batchelors Peas) said: “The University of Leicester players are deserving winners of this money-can’t-buy prize – we were impressed by their commitment to the sport and are keen to support them on their journey.”
Batchelors, founded in 1895, produces top quality Marrowfat, Mushy and Garden Peas, and has been a teatime family favourite for decades.
