Saints get revenge on Leigh

Saints get revenge on Leigh

St Helens 28-6 Leigh Centurions

Mark Percival scored 12 points as St Helens avoided suffering another defeat at the hands of Leigh Centurions.

Leigh had beaten Saints at Leigh Sports Village in February but suffered their seventh straight loss as they were swept aside at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

The visitors took the lead in the eighth minute as Jamie Acton charged over from close range but Saints hit back, with Mark Percival touching down before kicking the first of his four goals.

Theo Fages then gave the hosts a lead they never lost when he crossed in the 26th minute.

In the second half, Ryan Morgan added a third try before late efforts from Regan Grace and Alex Walmsley rounded off victory.

St Helens caretaker Derek Traynor said: "A win was vital for us after losing against Widnes. We worked hard for it as well and deserved it.

"Sean Long is introducing a few new things in training and you can see there is a willingness there to keep the ball moving and play football."

Leigh coach Neil Jukes said: "I don't think you can question the effort and integrity of the boys. At the moment we just don't have that quality and are missing experience. We created enough opportunities but only managed to get one over the line."
