Edinburgh Five In Scotland U19 Squad

18 man squad for England Colleges announced

Scotland have named players from four domestic clubs and several with Super League academy experience in their 18-man squad for their Under-19 international against England Colleges a week on Sunday. Head coach Mark Senter retains just three players from last year’s successful Under-19 squad but continues the even split between resident Scottish players and ‘Exiles’ – the heritage Scots from south of the border.
 
There are five players from Edinburgh, while Aberdeen Warriors provide two survivors from last year in Angus Grindlay and Damian Genocchio, and new youth Whitecraigs also supply two players. There are first call-ups for Falkirk’s Declan O’Donnell and former Scotland Under-16 rugby union trialist Simon McGarry from Perthshire, while newcomers from down south include Bristol’s Gregor Hamilton and Sherwood hooker Luke Walters.
 
Three of the teenagers in the Scotland squad from the recent Student Four Nations Championship return to the Under-19 squad in Edinburgh Eagles’ backs Finn Murphy and Finlay Hutchison, and Thatto Heath forward Oliver Murray.
 
Senter is having to start to build a new Under-19 squad following several of last year’s side moving out of the age bracket while Richard Harris has turned professional at Warrington Wolves and his club-mate Jamie Jones is injured. Warrington Wolves have provided another player this year in Davey Dixon, while Brandan Wilkinson is also playing in the Super League Academy for Bradford Bulls and Sam Blake for Wakefield Wildcats.
 
Scotland will play England Colleges on Sunday 5 July at Kingston Park, Newcastle at 12.30pm as a curtain-raiser to Newcastle Thunder v Rochdale Hornets. They will then play England Lionhearts on Saturday 10 October in the north-west of England and host Ireland at The University of Edinburgh on Saturday 24 October.
