The Rugby Football League is delighted to launch the England Community Lions Physical Disability Rugby League team who will participate in the first ever PDRL World Cup in 2021.
The tournament will be hosted in Warrington from 1 November 2021 culminating with the final at the Halliwell Jones Stadium ahead of France v Samoa in the final men’s group A match, on 7 November 2021.
The PDRL World Cup, which will run alongside the RLWC tournament, comprises of teams from five nations who will take place in a mini-tournament format. England will be joined by New Zealand, Australia, Scotland and Wales .
Rugby Football League’s Director of Participation and Development, Marc Lovering, said:
“Since the launch of PDRL in the UK in 2017 the game has continued to grow. From exhibition games hosted by our participating Super League Foundations, to the inaugural World Club Challenge and the first competitive domestic season. The natural progression was to develop the international competition.
“With the RLWC 2021 confirming that the first ever PDRL World Cup will take place next Autumn the RFL have taken the steps to launch the England Community PDRL Lions programme. The programme is another example of the inclusivity at all levels of Rugby League that the RFL are championing, giving aspirational playing opportunities for those in the disability community, widening the reach and giving more opportunities to create lasting memories for those selected to represent their country.”

The Rugby Football League will shortly be inviting applications for roles to support the England PDRL team in their bid to win the World Cup next year.
