Castleford and England's Claire Garner retires

Castleford Tigers and England Women’s International Claire Garner has announced her retirement from Rugby League.

Garner was part of the Bradford Bulls Women’s invincible team in 2017 which won the Women’s Super League and Women’s Challenge Cup. Garner would move to Castleford Tigers and win the League Leaders’ Shield in 2019 as well as featuring in both the Challenge Cup Final and Betfred Super League Grand Final. 

On the International stage, Garner earned three England caps including in the 2017 Rugby League World Cup against Cook Islands. Garner also featured against France in 2016 and 2017.

Following her retirement, Garner took to social media and said: “Rugby it has been an absolute pleasure, but age has got the better of me and it’s time to hang the boots up for good.

“Thank you to everyone who made my Rugby journey possible and as enjoyable as it was. I did things and experienced things I would never have done if it wasn’t for the opportunities Rugby gave me.”
