England Knights Watch

Who impressed this week?

England Knight Liam Marshall was pivotal in Wigan Warriors’ victory over Wakefield Trinity this past weekend crossing for a hat-trick in their 16-24 win.

Marshall’s hat-trick took him to 14 tries for the season and the long-distance scores meant he racked up 244 running metres against Wakefield, averaging a staggering 22 metres per carry.

Leeds Rhinos’ Jack Walker was also central to his sides crucial 10-36 win over London Broncos on Sunday afternoon as he notched a brace. Both of Walker’s tries came from some brilliant support play and the full-back made more metres than any other player on the field with 173 from his 21 carries.

A handful of fellow England Knights featured for the Rhinos with Liam Sutcliffe claiming a try-assist, Cameron Smith averaging 11 metres per carry and Harry Newman also breaking the 100-metre mark. Prop-forward Mikolaj Oledzki also featured.

Warrington Wolves’ Danny Walker scored his first try of the 2019 Betfred Super League season on Thursday evening albeit in a 22-6 defeat against Salford Red Devils. Salford’s Niall Evalds claimed a try-assist and averaged a gain of 14 metres per carry.

Three of Huddersfield Giants’ England Knights contingent featured as they went closer to securing their Betfred Super League status for another season. Full-back Darnell McIntosh was at his creative best as he set-up two Giants tries while Kruise Leeming and Oliver Wilson also featured. Josh Bowden was in action for Hull FC.

Jack Ashworth and Danny Richardson both played in St Helens’ 4-0 victory over Castleford Tigers with the Saints lifting the League Leaders’ Shield post-match. Mike McMeeken and Greg Minikin couldn’t prevent defeat for Castleford.
