Official Report / Commentary

Hull KR battled past the elements and a hard-working Wakefield Trinity outfit to edge to a 10-6 Betfred Super League away victory.

The only try of the match came in the 72nd minute through veteran Danny McGuire, who was sin-binned late in the first half, to put Hull KR into the lead for the first time as they returned to winning ways after back-to-back defeats.

In terrible weather conditions, Craig Hall struck a post with an ambitious penalty a metre inside his own half midway through the first half before finding the target with a 40-metre effort five minutes before the break to bring the scores level at 2-2 after a simple Danny Brough effort for the hosts.

Brough and Hall traded another pair of kicks in the second half before the former added another penalty to put Wakefield 6-4 up with 11 minutes to go.

But the Robins won it late on as centre Jimmy Keinhorst palmed the ball back from Josh Drinkwater’s kick to the corner and McGuire was on hand to touch down.

Wakefield head coach Chris Chester said: "I don’t want to take anything away from Hull KR, they played well and good on them.

"There was nothing between the two teams. It was a poor game to be honest and the conditions played a massive part.

"I was fairly confident at half-time, especially with the wind, although it seemed to die down in the second half.

"I was disappointed with a few things in the second half. Probably our management of the game needed to be a little bit better. Maybe we were guilty of going into our shell."

A delighted Tim Sheens hailed his threadbare Hull KR side, he said: "No coach could fail to be happy with the effort today, particularly after losing Danny (Addy) for 10 minutes and Woody with what looks to be an ACL. He’ll have scans tomorrow but the medical staff know what it is.

"We were already down in numbers and down in size so to stay with them, particularly in the second half, and come up with a winning try, it’s a great result.

"The conditions were an equaliser. Keeping Bill Tupou quiet was the key, although we struggled to handle their forwards.

"We barely had 17 fit this week and losing Woody is not going to help."
