Official Report / Commentary

Castleford Tigers became the latest side to take advantage of depleted Hull FC's crisis of confidence with an 28-8 win that keeps alive their slim hopes of securing a home semi-final.
Hull head coach Lee Radford questioned the commitment of his players while owner Adam Pearson threatened a winter clear-out in the wake of the club-record Betfred Super League defeat at Warrington.

But while those strong words elicited a gutsy performance, the Black and Whites slumped to an eighth successive loss.
Castleford have quietly gone about their business all year and they had another victory in the bag by half-time thanks to tries from Mike McMeeken, Junior Moors and Greg Eden.

Eden and James Clare crossed early in the second half - with Luke Gale adding the extras - but Hull refused to throw in the towel and scored consolation efforts through Carlos Tuimavave and Hakim Miloudi.

Hull coach Lee Radford said: “I’m hugely pleased with the response. The scoreline and result is against us but everything else is a massive plus and that’s a credit to the players. It’s a huge pat on the back for them.

“I’m pleased with the senior blokes who steadied the ship and the young blokes brought energy which is all we can ask at this moment in time. We’ve got 17 fit players. I can’t ask for any more than I got tonight.”

Castleford coach Daryl Powell said: “We did some pretty good things, defended well for the main part of it. Obviously Hull had a response today which was to be expected.

“We’re a little bit frustrated, having a chat with the boys then, with how we’re attacking in good field position. But we’re third and are in a great position. I’m really pleased with the win and we’ve got a great opportunity in front of us."
