Full-back Adam Quinlan scored the match-winning try on his comeback from a nine-month injury lay-off as Hull KR edged a 16-14 Betfred Super League victory over Warrington Wolves.
The win saw Tony Smith enjoy his first win as Robins coach against his old club.
Warrington were on course for a fourth win of the season against KR when they led 14-10 with five minutes left but Quinlan struck the crucial blow to level the scores and Ryan Shaw kicked the touchline conversion to secure a famous 16-14 victory.
Mose Masoe scored the other try for KR with Shaw booting eight points, while Bryson Goodwin and Josh Charnley crossed for the wolves with Declan Patton kicking three goals.
The victory takes the Robins level on points with 10th-placed Leeds and provides them with a major lift ahead of Thursday’s crucial basement battle with London Broncos in Ealing.
Hull KR coach Tony Smith said: "I’m pleased for the players and pleased for the club. It’s been tough at times, it’s tough seeing yourself sitting in a position in the table you don’t want to be in. We’re asking players to make some sacrifices and set some standards that are challenging in some ways and I’m pleased they’re getting some rewards for their efforts. It thought it was a terrific effort across the board. I thought we dug in and found a way. Without taking anything away from my boys, I thought Warrington were a bit off today but perhaps that was down to our enthusiasm, which made the opposition a bit flatter than normal.”
Warrington coach Steve Price said: "It was a disappointing game from our perspective. We gave away six penalties in the first seven minutes of the game and that was a reflection of our discipline throughout the whole game. We were up by four with a couple of minutes to go and we’ve got to be better to close out that game. In the end we were not good enough. We have got to be hard-hosed and create more opportunities. I think there was a bit of complacency to be honest and that needs to be addressed.”
