Two England Knights stars featured in this weekend's action as the Coral Challenge Cup returned for the first time since March.
England selection candidates Tom Johnstone and Reece Lyne were missing for an understrength Trinity side who fought hard but ultimately lost out 36-24 to the Dragons, who had won 58-0 in Super League against the same opposition a week earlier.
England Knights contender Tom Davies started on the wing for Catalans and though he couldn't add to the hat-trick he scored against Trinity last week, his two tackle busts, 95 running metres and five tackle contributions proved crucial in what turned out to be a tight encounter.
Also featuring for the Dragons was Matt Whitley who started in the second row and ultimately scored a crucial try - making it four tries in two games - with 16 minutes left to play, which all-but saw off Wakefield's chances of a comeback.
The former Widnes Vikings man also made 33 tackles and his average gain per carry of almost eight metres was amongst the best in the match.
This coming weekend sees a return to Betfred Super League action as Wigan take on Catalans, alongside Leeds squaring off with Salford on Saturday.
Meanwhile Sunday will see Hull KR take on St Helens, Hull FC play Huddersfield and Wakefield Trinity clash with Warrington.
