St Helens furthered their lead at the top of the Super League, and they couldn’t have done it without some impressive performances from their England contingent.
Their front row has been in imperious form this season and continued that on Good Friday with Alex Walmsley making 171 metres, Luke Thompson totalling 160 and hooker James Roby opening the scoring at the DW Stadium.
Tommy Makinson found himself on the scoresheet and made more metres than any other player on the field with a huge 214. Fullback Jonny Lomax also returned the ball well notching 106 metres and creating two tries in their 10-36 win. Mark Percival had to leave the field early due to injury.
Wigan halfback George Williams scored his 7th try in his last five outings with fellow England man Oliver Gildart providing the assist. Sean O’Loughlin and Joe Greenwood returned for the Warriors.
Liam Watts has been one of the most consistent forwards in the Super League this season and he put in another brilliant showing on Thursday evening in Castleford’s narrow win over Wakefield. The prop-forward ran for 123 tackles and made a whopping 49 tackles. Adam Milner and Jake Trueman were also involved in the victory while Wakefield’s Reece Lyne ran for 103 metres.
Hull FC ran out comfortable winners in the Hull derby on Good Friday with England player Jake Connor opening the scoring at the KCOM Stadium. Forward Scott Taylor ran for 83 metres from his 12 carries. On the other side, Robbie Mulhern made 29 tackles for the Robins.
Sam Tomkins was pivotal in Catalans’ hammering of London Broncos on Thursday night with the full-back scoring one try and kicking seven goals in a dominant display from the Dragons.
Leeds centre Kallum Watkins provided a try-assist in the Rhinos victory over Huddersfield. Giants winger Jermaine McGillvary made a staggering 152 metres.
It was a disappointing afternoon for Warrington who suffered defeat against Salford, but England trio Jack Hughes (44), Daryl Clark (40) and Ben Currie (39) were all active in defence. Stefan Ratchford kicked two goals for the Wolves while Chris Hill and Josh Charnley also featured.
