Widnes Vikings responded to their devastating news that they won't be in Super League next season by completing a thumping 40-0 victory over bottom-of-the-table Dewsbury. The Rams were no match for the resurgent Vikings and they had no answer to Widnes' crushing first half onslaught which saw Iain Morrison, Dean Gaskell, Steve Tyrer, Richard Fletcher and Paddy Flynn all touch down. The Vikings took their foot slightly off the gas in the second period but they still manage to produce some thrilling rugby with Gavin Dodd's 70-metre effort the pick of the bunch. Vikings prop Jim Gannon also put in a top display and his 80-minute stint was rewarded with a try on 58 minutes. The Rams thought they had prevented a whitewash in the later stages of the game but it was disallowed.
