Widnes Vikings were made to work hard before overcoming a determined Dewsbury Rams side 29-22 in Co-operative National League One. The home side led twice in the first half before Widnes rallied to head into the break 24-12 ahead. Dewsbury fought back well in the second half and tested Widnes to the full but had to settle for a bonus point which leaves them rooted to the foot of the First Division. Defeat was particularly harsh on centre Andrew Bostock, who scored a hat trick of tries for the Rams. Dean Lawford grabbed Dewsbury's other score while Pat Walker landed three goals. Richard Fletcher, Ben Kavanagh, Jim Gannon, Sam Barlow and Gavin Dodd, who also landed four conversions, all scored tries for the visitors with stand-off Bob Beswick confirming the visitors' victory with a last minute drop goal from 45 yards out.
