2023 Betfred Championship Preview | Whitehaven

Whitehaven will be looking to build on how they finished during the 2022 Betfred Championship season.

Jonty Gorley’s side ended the season with four victories, which saw them rise up to 10th in the table, despite being in a relegation battle for much of the season.

The Cumbrian side defeated local rivals, Workington, as well as Bradford, London Broncos and Newcastle Thunder, with the last two sides dropping below Whitehaven in the final weeks.

Whitehaven have lost key winger, Andrew Bulman to fellow Cumbrian side, Barrow Raiders. Bulman offered a key threat on the winger, as he proved during Haven’s Summer Bash victory over Workington Town.

Half-back Jamie Doran makes the switch from Workington along with Marcus O’Brien.

Meanwhile, Lachlan Lanskey and Lucas Castle join from Australia.

One to watch

Despite suffering relegation last season with Workington Town, Jamie Doran will be a huge part of Whitehaven’s attack during 2023.

The 28-year old featured over 100 times for Workington, before moving to his hometown club, Whitehaven.

Doran is a tricky player, who has the ability to change games. He will be a huge help to Whitehaven during 2023.

Whitehaven will travel to Odsal on Sunday 5th February in their opening Betfred Championship match. The game against Bradford Bulls will kick-off at 3PM.
