This Saturday (August 6) sees an array of silverware up for grabs across both North West and Yorkshire Men’s leagues.
Both leagues’ Shield, Cup and Trophy competitions come to a close as we ready up for some mouth-watering contests on both sides of the Pennines to decide who takes the spoils.
The North West Men’s League finals are set for action at the home of Salford City Roosters, and get underway at 11am as Wigan St Judes A take on Newton Storm in the Shield final.
Wigan St Judes A have had enjoyed a brilliant run to the final – their 20-46 win over Liverpool St Helens in the quarter final preceded a strong performance away to Ashton Bears A in the semi-finals, where they won 4-20.
Opponents Newton Storm head into this Saturday’s final after an enthralling Shield campaign – their 32-18 home win over Langworthy Reds in the semi-final followed a hard-fought victory over Burtonwood Bridge in the quarter-final, where they ran out 6-18 winners.
The second game of the day will see Salford City Roosters square off against West Bank Bears in the Trophy final, kicking off at 1pm.
It may be home soil for the Roosters, but the challenge remains the same – West Bank Bears have shown some real quality in the last few rounds, scoring 40 points in both their quarter & semi-final matchups. They beat Westhoughton Lions 40-26 before turning Cadishead Rhinos over 40-28.
Salford City Roosters will be rocking up to familiar grounds with their tails up – their 62-14 demolition of Woolston Rovers A in the quarter final set the tone, as they handled business in the semi-finals with a 35-26 win against Wigan Spring View in a fiercely contested match.
We round things off in Salford with the North West Men’s League Cup Final, as Orrell St James clash with Halton Farnworth Hornets at 3pm
It was a tight affair for Orrell St James in quarter final, where a gripping encounter at home to Blackbrook saw them edge it 34-28. There was no plain sailing in the semi-final, either, but they just had too much for Haresfinch and ran out 18-8 victors.
Halton Farnworth Hornets will be aiming to cap off an impressive Cup campaign – they booked their place in the final with a dominant 36-8 win against Ashton Bears with some exceptional Rugby League, but they also showed another side to their game in the quarter-finals when they ground out an 11-18 win away to Thatto Heath Crusaders A in a closely-fought cup tie.
