Betfred Championship Round-Up | Saturday

Featherstone Rovers will head into their AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Final clash with Leigh next week in top form after recording a dominant 78-0 home win over Whitehaven on Saturday.

Rovers handed a debut to Johnathon Ford off the bench in the Betfred Championship demolition, a game they led 46-0 at half time.

James Lockwood was the first tryscorer for Brian McDermott's side, swiftly followed by a try each for Ben Hellewell, Craig Hall, Joey Leilua and Ryley Jacks all before 24 minutes was played.

Jesse Sene-Lefao then scored the first of his hat-trick on 28 minutes - the others coming in the second half - but they still had time for tries through Morgan Smith and Luke Briscoe for their huge interval lead.

Connor Jones was next in on the act soon after the restart, he would also complete a hat-trick in the second period, alongside a score for Junior Moors.

Craig Hall was his usual prolific self with the boot as he added 11 conversions to go with his try for a 26-point haul on the night.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Bradford Bulls collected their sixth league win of the season with a hard-fought 36-20 home win over Newcastle Thunder.

They racked up a seemingly unassailable 24-0 half time lead and held on for a win which sees them into seventh on the table.

Thunder rallied in the second half with a hat-trick of tries for Jack Johnson, plus a score for Lewis Peachey and two Josh Woods goals.

Kieran Gill scored a first-half double alongside a try each for Tommy Doyle and AJ Wallace which saw Bradford into a fine advantage after 40 minutes.

But that wasn't enough to turn the tide as Declan Patton - who ended the day with six goals from six attempts - scored a try and Doyle's second saw the Bulls over the line.

Saturday's Betfred Championship Results:

  • Featherstone Rovers 78-0 Whitehaven
  • Bradford Bulls 36-20 Newcastle Thunder
