Wigan Warriors look to lift League Leaders' Shield

Wigan Warriors could secure the 2020 Betfred Super League League Leaders’ Shield with victory over Huddersfield Giants this evening, live on Sky Sports Mix from 7:45pm.

Friday’s fixtures will be the final two in the regular season as the Betfred Super League will be reshaped through November in response to the impact of COVID-19 cases at two clubs.

Wigan earned a crucial derby victory over St Helens which saw them climb above their local rivals in the Betfred Super League standings with a 75%-win percentage. However, should Huddersfield beat the Warriors, St Helens would be awarded the League Leaders’ Shield thanks to a superior points difference percentage.

Joe Greenwood will be unavailable for the Warriors after being handed a two-match penalty notice for a Grace C High Tackle in last week’s win over St Helens. Winger Dom Manfredi takes his place in the 21-player squad after missing out last week with a knee injury.

Huddersfield currently sit in 7th but are unable to claim the final play-off spot even if they were to win comfortably against the Warriors. Lee Gaskell misses out for the Giants, but young duo Ronan Michael and Reiss Butterworth could feature with Michael set for his Betfred Super League debut.

The action begins at 5:30pm on Sky Sports Mix as Wakefield Trinity and Salford Red Devils meet at the Emerald Headingley Stadium.

Wakefield’s run of three consecutive victories came to an end last Sunday as they were narrowly edged out 18-20 by Leeds Rhinos, who they had beaten just three days earlier.

As for Salford, they have won two and lost two since their Coral Challenge Cup Final defeat. They became the first side to beat St Helens with a 12-10 victory on October 26th but then were forced to forfeit their next fixture to Warrington due to injuries. They beat Catalans 42-24 on Monday afternoon.

Chris Chester welcomes Tom Johnstone, Bill Tupou, Reece Lyne, Jay Pitts and Craig Kopczak all back into his squad while Ian Watson is without Joey Lussick ahead of his move to Parramatta Eels next season.
