Betfred Championship Preview | Round 15

Betfred Championship Preview | Round 15

The most eagerly anticipated clash of the 2021 Betfred Championship seasons awaits us this weekend, as table-topping Featherstone Rovers and Toulouse Olympique face off at the Millennium Stadium.

Both sides have 100% records in the second tier this season, with Toulouse narrowly holding onto top spot thanks to their superior points difference percentage, and Sunday's winner will see this as an opportunity to lay down their marker to finish the season as Champions.

The French side haven't taken the field for more than a fortnight, with their last action coming in a 32-12 win at Batley earlier on this month, while Rovers followed up their AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Final success with a dramatic victory at Odsal over the Bulls last weekend.

Fev could give a debut to new signing Gadwin Springer, who has previously played at Catalan Dragons, Castleford and Toronto as well as Halifax earlier this year.

Elsewhere, Halifax and Bradford meet at the Shay, in a battle between the current third and fourth place in the Betfred Championship Table.

With six play-off places up for grabs, both sides will be desperate to hold onto their positions over the remaining weeks off the season, with the two points on offer this Sunday going a long way to doing just that.

Halifax are on an impressive seven game winning run over the last couple of months, pushing them right into the mix at the top, while the Bulls, despite last weekend's disappointing defeat at the hands of Fev, also well-placed to mount a serious charge back into the Betfred Super League.

The Batley Bulldogs are another side with ambitions of a play-off push, and they face a tough test against the Widnes Vikings, who themselves are not yet out of play-off contention.

The Bulldogs have steadied the ship with back-to-back wins after fourth straight defeats, particularly impressive last time out in demolishing the Newcastle Thunder, and another win on Sunday could well see their place in the play-offs all but sealed.

Elsewhere, Dewsbury host Swinton, who are still seeking their first win of the 2021 season, while the division's two newest recruits - Newcastle and Whitehaven - face off at Kingston Park.

Oldham and London also do battle, with the Broncos very much in the play-off hunt themselves, as they look for an almost immediate return to the top tier after their relegation in 2019, with Sheffield and York rounding off the weekend at 430pm.
