Betfred Championship round-up

Betfred Championship round-up

Featherstone Rovers maintained their 100 per cent record in the Betfred Championship with a 36-30 victory at Bradford Bulls.

Nu Brown and James Harrison each scored two tries as the visitors came from behind to record their 13th win from as many matches to keep table-toppers Toulouse Olympique in sight.

Ben Evans opened the scoring for the Bulls before Joe Keyes added points with the boot as the home side raced to a 10-0 lead.

A try from Jacob Doyle hauled Featherstone back into the match before Brown ran over his first of the afternoon.

David Foggin-Johnston then restored Bulls’ advantage with Brandon Pickersgill scoring a third for the hosts to earn a 20-12 half-time lead.

But James Harrison scored a quick-fire double with Brown running over for his second to hand Featherstone a 10-point advantage. Dane Chisholm then made sure of the victory in the closing moments with a dramatic interception try against his former club.

Adam Tangata scored a hat-trick of tries as Halifax Panthers secured a 40-28 win at Sheffield Eagles.

At one stage, the home side held a six-point advantage, but Tangata completed his treble to put the win out of sight and move Panthers up to third in the table.

Batley Bulldogs registered back-to-back wins with a 42-12 win against Newcastle Thunder.

Jack Blagbrough, Ben Kaye, Nyle Flynn and Lucas Walshaw were all on the scoresheet in the opening period as the hosts took a 24-6 lead into the break.

Kieran Buchanan, Levi Edwards and Ben White all got in on the action in the second half with Tom Gilmore kicking six from seven in a comprehensive victory.

York City Knights also romped to an easy victory following a 46-10 win against the league’s bottom side, Swinton Lions.

The hosts held a 16-0 advantage after just 11 minutes with Chris Clarkson, Ronan Dixon and Kieran Dixon all scoring. Danny Kirmond added a fourth before the interval with Swinton trailing 22-4 at the break.

Matty Marsh then ran over a double with Tyme Dow-Nikau getting his name on the scoresheet and Kieran Dixon adding his second of the day.

In the day’s other fixture, Whitehaven recorded a narrow 28-24 win against Oldham.
