Betfred League 1 Preview

Betfred League 1 Preview

Barrow Raiders maintained their unbeaten Betfred League 1 run last weekend albeit in dramatic fashion against Cumbrian rivals Workington Town and this Sunday they’ll face a strong Doncaster side who sit second, live on Our League.

The Raiders have won seven of their eight Betfred League 1 outings with last week’s 24-24 draw with Workington the only small blip in an otherwise perfect record.

Since a shock opening weekend defeat to Keighley Cougars, Doncaster have gone on a run of seven games unbeaten which has seen them defeat fellow promotion hopefuls Rochdale Hornets and Workington in the process. They earned a 16-34 win over Coventry Bears last time out.

Barrow are undefeated in their last five meetings with Doncaster however, having won four and drawn one. The Dons’ last victory against the Raiders was a 21-18 Betfred League 1 home win on April 24, 2016.

Workington will be looking to maintain pace with Barrow and Doncaster as they welcome a winless West Wales to Cumbria on Sunday afternoon. Chris Thorman’s men come into the game on a run of four games unbeaten and they have scored 24 or more points in every league outing in 2021.

West Wales remain in search of their first victory of the season after consecutive home losses to North Wales Crusaders and Hunslet in recent weeks.

Fourth-placed Keighley Cougars face a trip to North Wales this weekend as they look to stretch their winning run to three games. A 70-12 win over West Wales was followed up last weekend with an impressive 34-22 showing against London Skolars.

North Wales have three wins to their name so far in 2021 with the most recent coming against their Welsh counterparts, the Raiders.

Elsewhere, Rochdale Hornets host London Skolars with the Hornets looking to earn back-to-back victories for the first time this season. Rochdale were pre-season favourites to push for promotion back to the Betfred Championship, but last week’s win saw them end a four-game losing run. London are looking for their first victory since late-May.

Finally, Coventry welcome Hunslet to Butts Park Arena on Sunday afternoon. Coventry have two victories so far in 2021 while Hunslet are now unbeaten in their last four.
