Big Weekend ahead for Southern Conference League

Big Weekend ahead for Southern Conference League

It’s a big weekend for the Southern Conference League, with a meeting of two of the unbeaten teams in the East Division, and the All Golds hosting Swindon St George in the first fixture in the West.

London teams have made the early running in the first two rounds of competition in the eight-club East Division, with the Chargers, Wests Warriors and the 2019 Grand Final winners Hammersmith Hills Hoists boasting 100% records.

But something will have to give this weekend as Hammersmith face the Warriors, while the Chargers host an Eastern Rhinos team who lost to the Warriors last week, but are aiming to bounce back after an impressive win against South London Silverbacks first time out.

Meanwhile the All Golds are relishing the prospect of a first home SCL fixture in Bristol, at their SGS Stoke Gifford Stadium in Filton – when spectators will be permitted.

Both they and Swindon St George underlined the depth in their clubs with good wins for their A-teams in the West of England League last weekend, with Swindon beating Bath 32-28, and winger George Bvuma scoring a hat-trick in the All Golds’ 24-18 win against Worcester Jaguars.

There are four more games in the West of England League this weekend, with the All Golds heading further south-west to face Somerset Vikings, and Swindon St George A heading east to take on a Reading Raiders team who had a good win at Oxford Cavaliers last weekend.

The West Division of the SCL has been reduced to four teams by the withdrawal of Torfaen Tigers, but the newcomers Devon Sharks are due to make their delayed debut on June 5 at home to the All Golds.
