Women’s Rugby League Nines – Colleges and Universities

Women’s Rugby League Nines – Colleges and Universities

Rugby League Nines is set to be unveiled on the international stage in Sydney in October – and England’s colleges and universities are being urged to try out the shorter game for themselves.

Rugby league nines is a slimmed down and shortened version of the 13-a-side, 80-minute game, with matches lasting just 15 minutes and some rule variations introduced to reflect the various differences from the game’s traditional format.

The Rugby Football League (RFL) will be supporting college and universities during the 2019/20 academic year. The College programme kicks off with an event hosted by Wakefield College (Wednesday 9 October) and the University programme starts with an event hosted by the University of Leeds (Sunday 13 October).

More details about these sessions and the support available from the RFL to launch the nines game is available from adam.hughes@rfl.co.uk .

Support available from the RFL includes publicity and promotion, advice on accessing Rugby League World Cup 2021 ‘CreatedBy’ grants and bespoke support by individual arrangement.

This latest development is part of the RFL’s bid to increase regular participation in rugby league to 21,000 individuals by 2021.
