Burke joins Salford on permanent deal

Salford Red Devils have completed the permanent signing of former Wigan Warriors and Widnes Vikings prop Greg Burke.

The 25-year-old joined the Red Devils on loan from Widnes two months ago and has now signed a two-year contract.

He has made five appearances so far but will miss Saturday’s Super 8s Qualifiers clash with his old club due to injury.

Salford coach Ian Watson said: “Greg has been a big asset for us in the short term. He impressed on his debut against Widnes playing big minutes and crossing for a great try.

“He’s a mobile forward with great ball-handling skills and a tough defensive mindset.

“While Greg has been sidelined he has knuckled down and through his dedication – alongside our fantastic strength and conditioning department – has gotten himself in fantastic shape which will show on his return to the field.”

Salford have also given a two-year contract to outside back Ed Chamberlain, who joined the club at the same time as Burke in an exchange deal that took Weller Hauraki to Widnes.
