London RL Juniors boost St Mary's squad

The London region is known for producing talented Rugby League players and the new recruits at St Mary's University are no exception.

St Mary's, based at Strawberry Hill in Twickenham, have traditionally been the strongest Rugby League-playing university in south east England, competing in the top flight National competition.

This year's Freshers have further strengthened the St Mary's squad, who have enjoyed a record-breaking season.

Rugby League is the premier sport at the university and their first team competes in National League South, the top tier of the student competition.

St Mary's finished second in the league this season, ahead of Loughborough, Nottingham Trent and Swansea, and were seeded in the country's top four heading into the National play-offs.

Head coach of St Mary's, James Giblin, has been involved with Rugby League development in London for a decade and is delighted to see London Rugby League juniors representing the university.

He said: "Sport is a very important part of student life at St Mary's and Rugby League is the top sport here.

"We have a partnership with London Broncos, world class facilities and train in an environment that would be the envy of many professional clubs.

"We continually produce and develop incredibly talented players and anyone joining the club is assured of a fantastic experience.

"It's even better for lads who arrive on day one who already have Rugby League experience."

This year's recruits include Charles Hammond from the Ipswich-based Eastern Rhinos, Fred Dodds from local club Richmond RLFC, Dan Roberts from Brixton Bulls and Donny Noble from Championship One club London Skolars.
