The people of Alnwick and the surrounding area are being invited to visit Alnwick Bears on Saturday, February 24.
Alnwick Bears are 2018's most exciting additions to the local sport scene, offering Rugby League to children in school years 2-5 across their u7 to u10s teams and its rugby-themed play programme, Bear Cubs to 2-6 year olds.
The club are holding a free open day at Westfield Park, Longhoughton, NE66 3JH from 9am to 11am.
The first hour will be a chance to enjoy a fun session with the club's coaches before kids can play with the toys and equipment and family members can meet the team behind the club.
One of the club's number that will be recognisable to many is Coach, Danny Gilroy, better known as 'Coach Bear'.
Gilroy has been working to bring Rugby League to Alnwick for the last two years as part of his role with Rockets Community, the school's arm of RFL National Club of the Year, Cramlington Rockets, who are the Bears' sister club.
With all primary schools in Alnwick now playing the sport, he organised the first-ever Rugby League competition in the town last year, making it the furthest north the sport has ever been played competitively in England.
In recognition for his efforts, Gilroy was shortlisted for Coach of the Year at the recent Alnwick & District Sport Council Awards 2017 that took place at Alnwick Playhouse.
Gilroy will also be on hand for a two day camp this half term for 5-15 year olds on Wednesday and Thursday 14th & 15th February.
Running from 10am-3pm, it is only £10 a day if pre-booked online.
